Masons Arms

Market Pl, Camelford PL32 9PB, UK – 01840 213309

Yesterday we went to see some properties near Camelford and at about 2 pm we had a brake and stopped at Masons Arms pub for a bite. To our surprise the pub was really quirky, good quirky, interesting quirky! Waiting for the food I definitely didn't get bored. I looked around to try and take everything in and make sense of what I was seeing and met Jo the lady in charge of this pub who is a delightful character. She is full of energy and a chatter box. Simply refreshing taking in consideration that English are generally NOT like that. We loved Jo and spontaneous behaviour as well as the food ordered, which was plenty and good. We didn't even bother the cold in the pub because of the atmosphere created by Jo and quirky looking surroundings. Pity that Jo seem to leave the place soon, so we would like to say thank you for everything and wish her good luck with her future endeavours!

For those looking for gleaming walls and celeb chef atmosphere - go elsewhere. For those looking for character, a story in every view; honest, tasty, well cooked food of enormous proportions, from an equally enormous menu; staff and clientele who are ready to spend an hour just making one feel welcome, or exchanging news and views, then you've come to the right place. It is an unique experience that you will either love or loathe. We loved it, spending something like 4 hours in the bar and later the restaurant. Yes, it was winter and it was chilly in the restaurant. Yes, we waited a fair old time for our meals. But it was easily worth it. The food was excellent, the landlady Jo, a character as great as her own creation. She even later sat with us and explained a possible new adventure for herself, over offers of free mulled wine. Which brings me to the one caveat - Jo leaves The Mason Arms in late Feb 2018. So get in quick. Nevertheless, we were told the place will continue as usual after she leaves, so perhaps you could be one of the first to review this extraordinary place in the new era.

Gurkha Restaurant

8 Market Pl, Camelford PL32 9PB, UK – 01840 213050

Brilliant casual restaurant. Small menu but the chef is happy to cook you like. We went last night and me an my 3 friend had amazing service and great food. I would recommend this place to everyone how likes a curry in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Something a little different, at first glance a small menu but don't let that put you off as the chef will cook your choice of Indian cuisine. So good we went twice in the one week. Both the chicken and beef was so tender!! Don't expect full table service, It's not, you choose drinks from the fridge / wine cabinet and get your own plates and cutlery.

Peckish Fish and Chips

8 Victoria Rd, Camelford PL32 9TH, UK – 01840 213587

Fast and friendly service. Our fish was drowning in oil and difficult to eat. Kids loved the ninja treats which accompanied their meals.

This is easily the best fish and chip takeaway place of the decade I have been to. They should really open a restaurant as, unfortunately, it is just a takeaway. But do not let it spoil it for you, there are benches to sit on within 1-3 minute walk. The fish was perfect, the batter was perfect, the chips and peas were perfect, the potions were the right size, not too big, not too small, even the boxes, it all came in, were perfect! The kids meals came as a deal with a drink and some toys and stickers (the all important stuff for the kids:) If I ever am in the vicinity, I swear I will not visit another fish and chip shop!:) oh, yes, and the stuff were very accommodating and helpful too. If I could give this place six stars I would, just for the quality of the food.
